(AP) — New leaders at a Wyoming tribe’s gambling enterprise say their goal is to return the greatest amount of money possible to the tribe. The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the new leadership team from the Northern Arapaho Tribe announced several changes during a tribal citizens meeting last week.

CASPER, Wyo. — The Northern Arapaho Business Council announced on Friday, Nov. 6 that tribal casions and other gaming facilities will close due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Fremont County.

“The Wind River Hotel & Casino and other Tribal gaming facilities will be temporarily closed beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, and continuing through Nov. 30,” the Northern Arapaho Business Council said. “It is hoped the establishments can re-open on Dec. 1, if conditions warrant. Casino employees will continue to be employed, though some may temporarily transition into other roles during the closure.”

The release said that no layoffs, furloughs or pay reductions will be implemented at this time.

Fremont County has a total of 401 active laboratory confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, according to the Wyoming Department of Health. The state as a whole added a record 917 new lab confirmed cases on Friday.

There were also a record 147 COVID-19 in hospitals across Wyoming on Friday, according to the WDH.

Northern Arapaho Business Council Chairman Lee Spoonhunter said there has been “no indication the casino is a source of virus spread in our community, but Tribal health authorities have urged the Business Council to temporarily close these facilities due to surging case numbers in Fremont

Spoonhunter was diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this week, but the Northern Arapaho Business Council said his symptoms have been mild.

“He is in quarantine and continues to work on behalf of the Northern Arapaho Tribe,” the release states. “Also beginning Monday, Nov. 9, some Tribal departments will be open to the public reduced hours in order to prevent people from congregating and protect against COVID-19.”

“Other offices will temporarily be closed to the public or conduct business via telephone only. Offices with reduced hours – including Enrollment, Finance and others – will be open to the public every weekday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Critical departments and services, such as sanitation, food delivery, elder services and law enforcement, will not be affected.”

CASPER, Wyo — Wyoming residents anxious for travel and entertainment can add Deadwood, South Dakota to their list of possible getaways.

A number of hotels, casinos, and venues in Deadwood will begin re-opening Thursday, May 7, at 8:00 a.m., according to a release from the city’s Office of Transportation and Facilities.

Deadwood’s Ordinance 1312 seeks to “protect the continued operation of the free market consistent with the recommendations of the CDC hygiene practices” and encourages the city’s private sector to “understand that COVID-19 will impact their communities for potentially the next four months or more.”

The ordinance provides guidelines for employee health screenings, posted signage addressing personal hygiene practices, and encourages, but does not require, staff and patrons to wear masks “whenever possible.” The ordinance also states that personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks and gloves “should be provided to customers upon request.”

The Deadwood Gaming Association has released Modified Table Game Operations, which require licensed gaming operators to provide PPE and hand sanitizer to staff and members of the public upon request, and requires employees to be trained in a CDC-approved enhanced cleaning plan for sanitization of all contact surfaces, including chips and tokens.

South Dakota’s “Back to Normal” plan for re-opening businesses, signed by governor Kristi Noem, cites recent trends in the state that suggest it has a handle on the epidemic.

The Governor’s Executive Order 2020-20 cites projections endorsed by the state’s Department of Health and states that “due to the citizens of South Dakota following [previous public health orders], the potential demand of hospitals due to the novel coronavirus has been reduced, [and] South Dakota has flattened its curve… and beginning to resume normal activity is possible with a well-formed and deliberate plan…”
